“GCC provides the scholarships funds to these students because they are the very fiber in which our Country was founded hard work, integrity, and the desire to make a better life for themselves and those around them,” said Drew Whitington, Client Services Manager of Government Capital Corporation in Southlake, Texas.
For 20 years, Government Capital Corporation has been involved with awarding annual scholarships to deserving young students graduating from high school. Kevin Lerner, Government Capital Securities Corporation Municipal Advisor and Senior Vice President with Government Capital Corporation, was instrumental in getting GCC involved over 2 decades ago. GCC is one of the longest running sponsors of the Texas Rural Education Association (TREA). Since 1992, the TREA has been dedicated to improving teaching and learning in the rural schools of Texas.
“We understand that smaller districts are often overlooked because of their lack of size and clout,” continued Whitington. “We offer services which are beneficial to school districts who are small and who need our expertise in public sector financing to stretch every dollar. As a current Gold Sponsor for the TREA, GCC takes great pride in knowing the funds that are invested into TREA are used to promote Texas rural schools which create the best of the best leaders of tomorrow.”
Whitington and Jana Offutt, Client Services Representative, were in attendance at the 26th annual TREA Summer Conference on June 27, 2018 at the Dallas/Fort Worth Marriott Hotel & Golf Club at Champions Circle near the Texas Motor Speedway. GCC was privileged to award scholarships to Tabitha McKinney of Cisco ISD and Ashlynn Eubanks from Chapel Hill ISD.
