EARLY MUNICIPAL DEVELOPMENT DISTRICT ANNOUNCES LAND ACQUISITION

January 25, 2023 By Sharilyn Castaneda

Early, Texas (January 2023) – In 2022, the City of Early welcomed a new Petco location to its highest desired commercial corridor. As the Petco construction began, the Early Municipal Development District noticed a portion of the site on which Petco was constructing its new facility was going unused. Upon further discussions, Early MDD learned Petco was considering using the land for a dog park. However, unbeknownst to Petco, Early MDD already had a project underway building a dog park nearby at a new 30-acre park and recreational area.

After sharing the park plans with Petco, Early MDD reached an agreement with the developer to purchase the unused land to be used for further economic development.  “Purchasing this property is a win for both parties and is an excellent example of how the City of Early and Early MDD employ public-private partnerships for the good of all involved,” said Larry McConn, Director of Economic Development. Financing for this project was provided by Government Capital Corporation, Southlake, Texas.

“Early MDD is proud to have made this investment in providing for future economic growth for the City of Early,” says Larry McConn. “Having partnered with Government Capital previously, we were pleased to once again turn to them for their experience and expertise in the unique challenges facing municipal development districts.”

“I would like to congratulate Larry McConn and the Early MDD on their work and foresight on this acquisition,” stated Stephanie Cates, Vice President, Government Capital Corporation. “Government Capital is proud to partner with Texas Municipal Development Districts and support Texas communities.”
